Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior official commented the vandalism made him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
